Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has become available in our Finance Services team on a permanent full time basis for a Coordinator Financial Accounting

The key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Review and approve daily and weekly transaction entries including journals, AP invoices and payments.
  • Ensure assets are accounted for according to accounting standards and council policies, including required asset re-valuations. 
  • Oversee the City's grant portfolio including regular reconciliation and support branch completion of grant applications and acquittals.
  • Oversee monthly financial management reports and prepare Council agenda items for endorsement.
  • Maintain integrity of general and subsidiary ledgers ensure regular reconciliations are accurate and balanced.
  • Liaise with financial institutions to optimise performance and maximise revenue from the City's investment portfolio.
  • Ensure investment strategies align with financial goals, risk tolerance and liquidity needs in collaboration with relevant staff.
  • Oversee reserve balances and transactions, ensuring appropriate use according to designated purposes.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Prepare annual financial statements, end of year audit work papers, and general ledger reconciliations. 
  • Lead annual external audits and manage communications with auditors and the Office of the Auditor General.
  • Lead finance related internal audits including managing communications with auditors.
  • Identify, review and implement improvement opportunities and enhancements to the finance system, processes, reporting and data analytics.
  • Develop system capabilities in accordance with IT governance, enterprise architecture, security and compliance standards.
  • Ensure financial systems and processes comply with statutory requirements, and best practice financial management principles.
  • Promote a culture of excellent internal customer service and continuous improvement.

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in Business, Accounting or related discipline and extensive experience in a related role. Current Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA).
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team, providing excellent customer service, focused on continual improvement.
  • High level organisational ability planning, prioritising and achieving outcomes to deadlines.
  • Highly developed and interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain new system, strategies and procedures.
  • Experience in financial reporting, budgeting, analysis, general accounting principles and statutory requirements.
  • Well-developed ability using corporate computer systems.
  • Federal Police Clearance not more than 6 months old at engagement.

Salary Package:

In line with the City of Subiaco Inside Staff Industrial Agreement 2025, this position is classified as a Level 9. The salary range is $132,600.00 to $141,128.00 per annum, exclusive of superannuation
