Job Description

This role sits in the Finance Services branch and will deliver timely, accurate and compliant financial accounting and processing services, as well as to support the continuous improvement of financial accounting systems and processes.

The key responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Maintain the accounting for fleet and minor assets and ensure assets are being accounted for in accordance with accounting standards and Council policies.
  • Maintain accounting and reporting for City grants and coordinate internal stakeholders with the completion of grant applications and acquittals.
  • Prepare and process trust refunds, reconcile trust accounts and manage the trust system.
  • Process month-end closing functions, including reconciling accounts, and preparing journal entries.
  • Assist with processing of accounting activities for investments, loans, leases, and inventory, and reserves.
  • Assist with ongoing integrity of the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers with reconciliation being prepared and balanced on a regular basis.
  • Process receipting and bank transfers, prepare bank reconciliations and address daily and monthly banking activities for the City.
  • Manage creditor processing and ensure invoices are paid on a timely basis.
  • Review weekly creditor payment run for accuracy in payment details.
  • Manage creditor accruals and prepayments on a month end and year end basis, in line with correct accounting treatment.
  • Any other duties as required.

Essential criteria:

  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
  • Sound time management, planning and coordinating skills.
  • Well-developed customer service skills.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise tasks.
  • Ability to interrogate the financial system and analyse data.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of accounting procedure, including accrual accounting principles and procedures.
  • Experience in a similar role, preferably in local government finance context.
  • Completed or progression towards a Certificate IV in Accounting and/or Bookkeeping, or equivalent accredited industry-based training course, or demonstrated significant knowledge and experience in a similar role.
  • Federal Police Clearance not more than 6 months old at engagement.

Salary package:

In line with the City of Subiaco Inside Staff Industrial Agreement 2025, this position is classified as a Level 5 and the salary range is $86,452.08 to $96,200.00 per annum, exclusive of superannuation.
